Before we came to Iran, we had only heard about the famous Iranian poet Hafez. After arriving in Shiraz, we went to visit his mausoleum.
Hafez’s real name was Shams-od-Dīn Moḥammad (Persian: اجه شمسالدین محمد حافظ شیرازی). He was a famous Persian poet in the 14th century. He was known as the “poet’s poet”. “Hafez” is a pen name, which means “able”. A person who memorizes the Quran". He also has many titles, such as: Divine Tongue, Expresser of Providence, Shiraz Nightingale, etc. October 12th is Hafez Day in Iran.
