We came to the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad, the holy city of Shia Islam in Iran. This complex, centered on the tomb of Ali ibn Musa al-Rida, the eighth Imam of the Twelver Shia sect, has been continuously expanded and renovated for 800 years and is already one of the largest religious sites in the world.
The center of the Imam Reza Shrine, the burial place of Ali ibn Musa al-Rida (765-818 AD), is a space of about 100 square meters. Iranian Muslims built 21 porches, 4 religious schools (there were 10), 2 sakharahanas, 9 courtyards and 6 fortresses around it, including the tombs of other saints.
We were led by staff in the shrine and left footprints between the main buildings of the shrine.
