Isfahan is crossed by a large river, and there are many famous ancient bridges on it. The Hejiu Bridge and the Si-o-se-pol we visited are the most representative ones.
The Khaju Bridge is an ancient bridge on the river in the center of Isfahan. It was built 400 years ago and is known as the pinnacle of Persian bridges. The ancient bridge became the pinnacle of Persian bridges.
In 1596, Shah Safavid Abbas I ordered a bridge to be built at the widest point of the river in the capital Isfahan. Six years later, the bridge was completed and named after its builder, Allahverdi Khan Undiladze (Persian: پل اللهوردی خان), but the “Si-o-se-pol“ gradually became a more widely known name (Persian: سیوسهپل), means ”bridge of thirty-three (spans)”. The bridge integrates the functions of a bridge and a dam. Whenever night falls, the bridge will gather people who come here to relax.
